Kinky title, heres mine: Raw Giraffe Soft Spot Fun

Loops are loops, and forever will tend to be more simple in nature.

I like the clean cut gated synth sounds.

I however do not like the siding up and down bit, it feels like I'm playing Mario kart and post-being-hit-by-lightning, the music plays all detuned and wobbly. (Yech) That is however, a matter of personal preference of style of sound.

Drums are once again, strict electro. Woo.

I think if this were hypothetically made into a longer peice, layering more of the same synth doing accompaniments to iself would be totally sweet. Maybe you should play a bit with it in hopes of producing some head spinning results. Hint hint.

First/Last ... ?

Robotic voices didn't fit in for me.

Guitar needs some effects on it desperately.

Melody is a bit all over the place at parts.

IF the guitar is the lead, add some bass. If its the lead, where is the bass?

This sounds incomplete to me.

Drums were fine though.

Dead on

Got the boss song feel perfectly down here.

Drums are a bit iffy at parts, like the crashing cymbal repetition, and kind of lame rolls... but who cares, its boss time in Paper Mario.

Grn-Drgn responds:

Thanks :P i really enjoy your type of constructive criticism ^^

An even 5.

First few seconds made this sound quite promising, but the simple bass and drums + the odd triangle 'ting' got repetitive real fast. I'm thinking you should have submitted a 30 sec loop instead. Theres nothing wrong with whats hear other then its repetitive, and doesnt vary, nor is it club material.

The names kind of lame, do you need to specify that whomever the subject is, is "Clubbin' all night" ? Like, I assume when people club, its not at 8:00Am.

Low scores cause I feel mislead.

dj-protege responds:

idk man i think u need to listed to hip hop more. its not suppose to be an actual club beat douche, its just suppose to be like a busta rhymes beat or pharrell
beat, But thanks anyways

Sounds good...

"The melody is hardbeat market" as in, someone elses melody? How much of this is yours?

Great electro feel, drums vary a fair bit which keep this moving.

My only recomendation would be layer another synth on it with an alternate melody and make it fuller sounding, whilst nice as it is, it does feel like there is room for something more to give it a "go do something good for the planet" kind of feel.

I like the branch at 3:20, only downside is it goes back into what it was already doing, when it opened up a huge array of possibilities.

4'd, I do like this.

Z-Tone responds:

dude thats a review!
you can acctually google search the original track
and yeah another synth could work but the melody could be a problem because i tried that and i didn't find anything that was subtle enough so it wouldn't throw the whole track...well of track.....think ill work on that
and i was EMPTY when i finished that "branch" as you call it:P
but yeah i didnt steal very much when i took the melody changed it alot but you can hear the similarity
but anyways thanks for a great review mate
and you should check out some of my other stuff
both on this account and the "hotplurplegnome" one

The poor dinosaurs.

Careful with your claims.

This sounds like FL's "Fl Keys" and I've got a whole pack of video game midis I can dump into FL and make sound fancy in a second, so you may get some flak about the authenticity of your work.

I'd highly recommend adding in some dynamics, and working on the piano sound to be more natural, so that if you did do this by ear, it as an overall composition is more professional, cause as of the moment, it sort of just drones.

Grn-Drgn responds:

yeah, it's on fl studio... but i never used any midi to make this one, i sure looked up in a midi file to see if i was on the right keys ONCE I WAS DONE and to be honest with you, the song is completely offkey... the thing is that i know how to play piano, but i don't have any recorder... so i try my best to make things as i play them... of course, fl will never beat the beautiful sound of a grand piano... but hey, nobody's perfect ^^ and thanks for the review, i'll try harder on my next piano composition alright? :P

7 again foo.

The synth melody is great, and feels like it would be worth-while house material if the drum beat were tweaked into 4/4 kicks.

Which while nice sounding, isn't quite hip-hop. Drum beats need to be make sharper/crisper/heavier/whatever-er, they just aren't prominent enough.

This could also benefit from a simple base melody being introduced earlier. (In my opinion avoid plucked base sounds for this genre)

I was at a club with some North-American mammals..

... Seal Clubbing?

Jokes put aside, you've got the feel for this genre dead on, which is big.

What you do need to work on is making the drums sound more crisp, and a bit more prominent. Their nice but feeble and weak. A good way to often do this is put on a compression effect and play with it a bit (keep it balanced, you don't want your percussion distorting the rest of the song). Also try trimming out the silence in the samples, it should make them a bit more brisk sounding, which can improve the 'impact' they give.

Synths are nice, a bit generic, and I think a real instrument would make this really into a hiphop track, which I think is the effect you were going for with the final synth, which sounds reminiscent of a horn instrument (Which is just a little bit louder then I think is neccessary).

Overall, pretty good, only thing really missing is some lyrics. :P

Flaming heinus song.

Pre-1:05, everything in terms of note placement and what not is great.

Post-1:05 the piano rolls or scales / fast consecutive notes don't really sound like their being played, they cut each other off, and don't really flow.

I'd suggest you think of the drums not as individual pieces and sounds, but as a whole set, they need to all fit together and compliment one another. The kick is nice sounding, but the quieter kick / kick rolls don't sound so good (it may be a delay effect). The hi-hats and snares though work, they are light and crisp.

Strings are smooth and calm, no problems there.

Piano I think could be a little more crisp to define it better. If you add in some volume dynamics with them, it will make the piano sound much more realistic as if someone is playing it 'with emotion' (oh la la, emotion). As some people on thehelper have said, it feels like it needs to build up a bit, and I think the piano is the way to emphasize the build thats already in place.

Im not into this genre

My disposition towards happy-hardcore isn't a friendly one.

That being said, synths / stereo-ized sounds are great, and for a gimmicky genre, its not awful. The melody is uber simple, but that is the nature of this type, if you do edit it, a more moving melody would make it far better in my opinion.

Speaking of gimmicky, take the cheering sample out of the beginning, that alone tempted me to 0 this. Honestly, putting cheering in your own music? That is like making a robot to give you high fives all day until your own wrist is sore, and your self esteem is boosted. The Cool-Aid guy would be disapointed (Oh no!).

But yes, as for overall-ed-ness, this is pretty cool. If you are making it longer, just put in some lone synth with a low-freq filter on it and make it build for 30 seconds, hardcore fans eat that stuff up, and it tacks on a fair bit of length to a song.

DjSc00p responds:

Well for the melody, happy hardcore songs have these simple melodies. For the cheering, it sounded good with the song but your taste may be different. And no, im not desperate for my self esteem to be boosted lol. But i have to say, if you seriously hate this genre and your temped to 0 this for small stuff just because you hate the genre, then please dont vote or review. Just go to another song lol.. Thanks for the review tho.
