Dough head

Piano and string instruments are nice, its like a more fast paced Mr.Rogers theme song, with a hip-hop kind of beat.

Which is good.

Get a handle on using some effects to make everything come together better. The main melody synth that comes in and out is a bit honky-midi in general sound, which in my mind is this songs weak point.

Overall song build is quite good, no complaints there, though 5:30 may have been 45 seconds longer then may have been good for this peice, unless you intend on changing around some of the later melody.

Keep this up, its easy listening.

Whitesock responds:

First of all, thanks for the review!

I'll try to touch it up and polish it with effects and such for a final version.

I'll probably change the "saxophone" synth (it doesn't really sound all that much like a sax) to something else with a more professional sound also.

And yes, I plan to work the sequencing around some so it isn't as repetitive or long without the added parts.

Its like Maplestory up the backside.

Post-production stuff is all jolly and flavourful. Great job on the mastering/eq/balance etc.

Felt a bit more house-like to me then trance, but that's just a matter of opinion.

Synths used are all very breezy sounding, something that was crisp and more clean would have been neat. The bass lives up to its name and does have the low frequency oomf.

Drums are kind of lame, just 4/4 kick with rolls and a snare on the second/fourth beat. Some variation/dynamics would have made this more interesting to me.

Melodies are simple and get a bit overused, its not until like 4:50 that it really changes up, and even then that second bit could use more variation.

This song is well made, but just felt generic to me. Most impressive feature would be the Eq and whatnot.

'Push it to the limit' in future songs.

Make it louder

I'll quote myself: "Make it louder".

Pretty funny, tunes nice, and good job on not having a fail - improv session.

Is someone playing with bubble rap near the end..?

Mogly responds:

It is to quiet, next time we'll put the computer-microphone closer. But until then people will just have to turn their speakers up and hope somebody doesn't sign on MSN.

No that's not bubble rap.. that's me strumming with menace haha. You hear my friend Nick say 'Stop that' right as I stop.

Lol at 'Stifler' for existing

Technically any notation of day time or cloud cover in a jungle wouldn't be evident due to thick canopy...

Your music covers a span of different feels, its nice hearing an artist who doesn't pump out the same stuff over and over again (who I would argue that those people are not very artistic).

It would be nice to hear this build a bit more then what it does.

Instrumental sounds are all great, no flaws screaming to be changed. This isn't really my kind of idea as far as listening to goes, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the subtleties that make this a class-A ambient piece.

SolusLunes responds:

I have just one thing to say to you: >:(

Nah, I kid, I kid. :D

Would be better if it was 6 seconds.

You did capture an asian-ethnic feel in a breif clip, very nice, hope the long one maintains the feel throughout.

Gave it 9/10.

I save the 10/10s for the ever greater 6 second clips.

SolusLunes responds:

CURSE YOU AND YOUR SIX-SECOND ISM

Love IDM.

Sick loop, so long as you and I are hearing the same piece, we should both know its quite dandy.

I'd like to hear the full song when its complete.

Have you added in the stutter effects and whatnot by editing the exported Mp3, or did you do them within the program(s?) that you used?
Don't be brief, I do want to know!

Reticence responds:

Everything was done within FL Studio. ^^

It is special.

The note that slides up and down quickly I think is clashing with some of the bass notes when they play at the same time, IE different keys being used without a smooth transition between the two.

Lower the volume on the kick a little bit, there's a few parts where its causing some distortion to everything else in an unpleasant to listen to sort of way.

Also at 1:20 the lazer VGM pew pew effect could be integrated more smoothly, it sounds cool, but feels out of place as of the moment in this peice.

Other then those minor points, its pretty solid.

Atmospheric Indeed

You've got a great mind set for melody's and progression.

I think a bit of technical know-how with effects would bolster this song into something far greater.

The very first note, higher pitched synth could be changed, its got a bit of a warble-annoying sound to it which I think distracts from the rest of the song.

PIED3 responds:

Thanks for the review, i know very little of effects and mastering etc. and i only use garage band and i a midi keyboard, but ill try to improve on that, thanks!

Shoop

3 minutes isn't long unless you want this to be on the radio 30 years ago.

I find this to be calming.

Instruments all 'fit'

Towards 1:40 when the guitar picks up it really kicks off, and the electric guitar is wicked. Its not everyday that you hear music like this (especially on NG).

I think the ending should build a bit more with the electric and have a more conclusive ending, which could be done in 5-10 seconds of additional play time.

I approve.

PIED3 responds:

Thanks, im glad that everyone liked the guitar, i wasn't sure if it would fit but it seems to be a hit! Thanks for all the reviews!

Don't lick concrete

I feel like I opened a can and out poured condensed Pippi-Long Stocking. (A feeling I thought only existed in dreams)

This is a very nice melody and definitely has a sing-a-long kind of feel, its very catchy, but not in an annoying sort of way.

I would recommend making the accompanying piano have some dynamics so it follows the tune a bit more, perhaps soften them.

Also if the silence at the end was trimmed near the end, NG users could make use of this.

Very nice, high five.

PIED3 responds:

Wow, thanks for the review, seeing as ive got such a good response to this i might add to it then i guess! Thanks for reviewing!
